Disclosure Notice to Short-term Insurance Policyholders

IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

This notice forms part of the insurance contract.

As a short-term insurance policyholder, or potential policyholder, you have the right to the following information:

Internal Arbitrator: The Internal Arbitrator (IA) is appointed to provide impartial adjudication of any complaints escalated to his/her office. Should any complaint regarding your premium, policy or claim not be resolved to your satisfaction, please write to the Internal Arbitrator at internal.arbitrator@santam.co.za.

Premium Obligation

Please refer to your Policy Schedule and monthly Tax Invoice for a premium breakdown.

Premium payment, due date and consequence of non-payment

Payment information is detailed in the Policy Wording under the section PAYMENT.

3. OTHER MATTERS OF IMPORTANCE

  1. You must be informed of any material changes to the information provided above.

  2. If the information above was given to you verbally, it must be confirmed to you in writing within 31 days.

  3. If any complaint to the intermediary or insurer is not resolved to your satisfaction, you may submit a complaint to the Registrar of Short-term Insurance.

  4. Polygraph or similar tests are not obligatory in the event of a claim and the failure thereof may not be the sole reason for repudiating the claim.

  5. If premium is paid by debit order,

    1. it may only be in favour of one person and may not be transferred without your approval; and

    2. the insurer must inform you at least 31 days before the cancellation thereof, in writing, of its intention to cancel such debit order.

  6. The insurer and not the intermediary must give reasons in writing for repudiating your claim.

  7. The insurer may not cancel your insurance merely by informing the intermediary. There is an obligation to make sure the notice has been sent to you.

  8. You are entitled to a copy of the policy free of charge.

4. WARNING

  1. Do not sign any blank or partially completed application forms.

  2. Complete any forms in ink.

  3. Keep any documents handed to you.

  4. Make a note as to what is said to you.

  5. Ask for a letter of representation from your adviser.

  6. Don't be pressurised to buy the product.

  7. Incorrect or non-disclosure by you of relevant facts may influence an insurer on any claims arising from your insurance contract.
